This Moment in Time

This page is an ephemeral list of what I’m working on and thinking about right now.
Life
- I got married in March! We had a beautiful ceremony with our closest family and friends at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory.
- I’ve started biking 16km round-trip to work. It’s great exercise and about the same length of time as my car commute.
Technology
- I’ve been diving down the Meshcore rabbit hole! There’s an active community in the GTA. I’ve been building a custom solar LiFePO4 node, linking to Home Assistant, and trying to get as much height as I can out of my balcony antenna.
- Just migrated this website from Jekyll to Hugo. I found it be be a bit more flexible and logical for what I want do with this site in the future. I also just got tired of installing Ruby on every computer I wanted to develop my site on…
- I’ve been using Linux as a daily driver, and I was on ZorinOS for a bit but recently have been trying out Fedora Kinoite.
- Leaning away from algorithms and towards human content and curation by searching for and subscribing to RSS feeds of interesting people.
- Building up my homelab. What started as just a NAS is now an experiment in containerized services, home automation, and digital sovereignty. Expect an article this year!
The Café
- Velvet Sunrise Villarazo Anerobic Natural Sudan Rume (Columbia): 20g->42g, 22 seconds, 15.75 Grind (JX-Pro). Very limited batch, but luckily it only took one or two shots to get nearly dialed in. I’ve never had a fermented coffee before and I’m pleasantly surprised - my espresso tastes like strawberries!
Learning
- Mandarin Chinese! I spoke a little bit in my wedding speech, which was fun.
- Principles of Power Electronics by Kassakian et al. I have some projects in the pipeline that involves some epic power conversion.
Playing
- Star Rupture: a good-looking and interesting factory building and survival game set on a planet with an unstable sun.
